There is so much to blog about!
I've been too busy to blog lately, but I've got a lot to tell you about...
But that will wait. First and foremost, I want to post a blog in remembrance of my cousin, Julie, who was killed at Virginia Tech. Today is the anniversary.
Here's a link to her biography on the official remembrance site:
Please pray for her parents and siblings today.
I'd also like to share a poem my sister wrote:
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust – we all fall down.
Eye contact, firm nods, grim taunt lips.
We tramp down the pebbled driveway, crossing our dear blue bridge.
Idle chatter, forced distractions,
Anything but reality…
The inky black sky, silent path, omniscient oaks,
Crunching gravel, brittle leaves,
We hike and each smile faintly, wistfully,
As we pass weathered flags, withered flowers,
Polished granite glinting in the dark.
A quiet bench, fresh earth,
A cross of twigs.
A bed of new, young flowers, so vulnerable
And neatly planted, almost desperately…
Ferns might fill the void.
We sit and keep her company…
And talk about everything but.
We envy her view -
Silvery branches stretching their arms up into the starry sky.
A shooting star and she’s with us --
We know we’ve made her smile.
“Goodnight Jules” – “sleep well Julie ” – “we’ll visit soon.”
We walk back nice and slow,
All alone and yet all together, remembering --
Her infectious laugh, her love for life, her humbling compassion,
Her inspiring determination to make an impact…
But achingly we are reminded -
We are mortal, formed of the earth, and to earth we shall return.
