Today's Psalm, Psalm 7, is another Psalm of David. He sung is "concerning Cush, a Benjamite." It's an interesting Psalm for me, because again, David is being pursued by human enemies, a position I've not really been in... I mean, I've met some mean people who don't like me, but as far as I'm aware, no one has been out to murder me. But despite that challenge, I feel compelled to do turn this psalm into a personal prayer from me to God, retelling it to Him in my words. I share below (and below that is the linky).
My God, my King and Lord, You of power, I take refuge in you;
save and deliver me from those who wish me harm.
(from spiritual enemies, and from that horrid and worst foe of mine: Me.)
or they will surely tear me apart like a lion!
Indeed, I know my enemy prowls like a hungry one!
Preserve me from the evil one!
Without your divine intervention, he will rip me to pieces.
LORD my God, I know I am guilty of many things;
my hands have done evil.
I am not always kind, I am a sinner.
But I have repented, and you promise the washing with your blood;
I believe in the power of your name!
Do not let my enemy pursue and overtake me;
or let him trample my life to the groundand make me sleep in the dust.
God, I know you are just. You will not let the enemy have his way always,
You are faithful to swoop in and save your children.
Come, my mighty redeemer, my God; decree justice and mercy.
Let the assembled peoples gather around you,
while you sit enthroned over them on high.
I picture you in your Revelations glory, and my inner being lies prostrate at your grace.
You are the rightful judge of the people!
Do NOT vindicate me, O Lord, according to my righteousness,
or according to my integrity, O Most High.
Instead, please be my advocate.
I do not deserve your mercy, but I ask for it.
Do bring to an end the violence of the wicked
and make the righteous secure—
Yes You, beloved, righteous God
who probes minds and hearts!
You are my shield, my God Most High,
who saves the upright in heart.
You are a righteous judge,
a God whose word says "displays his wrath every day"
(I admit, I see more your beauty)
But I believe You do not relent,
and will sharpen your sword;
and will bend and string your bow.
You have prepared your deadly weapons;
you make ready your flaming arrows.
I do believe you surrender those who don't choose you
to their own path.
This means that those who choose evil
(and you are the only one who is good,
so whoever rejects God embraces evil)
shall be surrendered to evil.
The trouble they cause recoils on them;
their violence comes down on their own heads.
I will give thanks to You, my God, because of your righteousness;
I rejoice to sing the praises of Your Most Holy Name!
