Book Review and Contest: Heart of the Country by Gutteridge and Ward

Heart of the Country by Gutteridge and Ward is a dual take on the parable of the prodigal son.  Luke and Faith are a married couple who have both run from their parents and God.  Suddenly a string of crises threatens their marriage and life as they know it. Can Luke swallow his pride and go to his father for help? Will resentment from Faith's sister drive her away from familial reconciliation  just when it is most needed? Will Luke and Faith come together or abandon each other during the most difficult periods in their lives?

It's a fun novel. I really thought it was an intelligent and fairly complex storyline. I loved how the parallel prodigal themes unfolded subtly and without redundancy. It is very easy to make something like that overt in a cheesy way, but it wasn’t like that at all. I found the characters pretty likeable. This novel addresses not only romantic love but the bonds of family.

Unfortunately, the e book formatting was a little wonky.  There were many times when I had to reread paragraphs to figure just who had said what.  But overall it was a minor issue. This was an enjoyable read and I do recommend it.

I received this book free in exchange for my unbiased review from Tyndale Publishers.

So if you think this book sounds good, consider buying the ebook version for the introductory price of $2.99 and receiving a chance to enter the Star for a Day contest.  You and a guest will be flown to the movie set... that's right, they're making a movie! And you can be in the movie. You could get a small speaking part. You'll get a star trailer, go through hair and makeup, all of it!
