Exciting! Do you like C.S. Lewis and his Screwtape Letters? Well As One Devil to Another is a modern day version by Richard Platt done in Lewis' tradition. Today I'll share my review with you, as well as launch a giveaway for a copy! (The giveaway will end Monday.)
As One Devil to Another follows the letters of Slashreap, the uncle and mentor to the young demon Scardagger. Scardagger is a recent graduate of Tempt U and is getting his first client. His new responsibility is to acquire the soul of this client, a graduate student at Oxford, for His Infernal Majesty (the devil). In order to do so, he has to try to keep her away from The Adversary (God). The book is interesting as you explore the mindset of these fictional devils and the way they view the world. As Lewis' showed the Christian world in The Screwtape Letters, viewing life through the eyes of the enemy sometimes shows us how to defeat his strategies and rely on God's Truth.
This is a fanciful book. I'm not 100% sure I agree with all the theology presented (even when I reverse the viewpoint mentally) but it's hard to tell. However, I enjoyed the book and wanted to know what would happen to the client and her friends and family. I cheered at God's victories and laughed at the demons foibles. I have a confession: I've never had the opportunity to read The Screwtape Letters though I'd heard of them and have enjoyed other books by Lewis, and was happy to get to read this modern day tribute. I recommend this book and hope you will enjoy it as well.
I received this book free from Tyndale Publishing in exchange for my unbiased review.
