A Thousand Thanksgivings

I am always on an increasing journey to learn to be more grateful, to cultivate gratitude as my default in all things. A life surrendered to God is a life permeated by thanksgivings, and a grateful heart is a joyful one.

On this blog I have done some form of a weekly "thankful" post for years and when I forget, I do feel a loss to the atmosphere of my blog. However, I have been toying for a while not in doing away with the lists of gratitude but instead altering the format. I have prayed about this a while.

1. My Dreamer's smile
I am finally getting around to reading One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp. I have heard about it
from friends for years and from what I have read so far (about 20% of the way in) I think God has been teaching me similar things as He was teaching her (though as I am only 20% of the way in, likely she is much farther along and I am looking forward to reading onward!)

But the point is that I am reading about her choosing to do a list of a thousand gifts God has given her and my first thought was: what about doing that on the blog for November? Some quick math however makes me realize that that's a list of 33 things a day, way too much. So I think what about doing 11 a day for 3 months and starting in September?

But then I reasoned that August 1 was right around the corner (and now is now.) And why not just stretch it out until the end of the year? That's 153 days, so about 6.5 things a day.
And a peace settled on me.

No, I am not going to stop blogging other things, not at all! Instead, at the end of every post, I will include 5-6 things I am grateful for, and on days when I don't have another post written I will post 7-10 things as a post in and of itself. In this way I will post everyday for the rest of 2015 and saturate my blog with gratitude to the Lord!

I am making a list of at least 100 things by the time I publish this so I will have a buffer of time ahead, that way I don't miss a day simply because I have a scatterbrained moment. Of course I don't really know what the rest of the year will hold, but I will be faithful to attempt this.

This post is serving as an explanation of the project, so here are my ending six things which I am grateful to the Lord for:

1- My Dreamer's smile
2- Her sweet baby voice
3- For my husband's sense of humor
4- And sunshine
5- For time and multiple opportunities
6- for laughter
